She received the following rejection letter from its editor, Horace Scudder: “Dear Madam, I could not forgive myself if I made others as miserable as I have made myself.” Do you agree with the editor’s assessment? If you agree with the editor’s assessment, you will need to explain in detail what aspects of the story were upsetting to you.
